Valor: G4 Insert

Heat you can feel from the couch—and it keeps working when the power doesn’t.

Quick Facts

• Heating Capacity: 700–1,400 sq ft
• Efficiency: 70% (EnerGuide)
• Viewing Area: 28″
• Fuel: Natural gas or propane.
• Controls: Remote with programmable thermostat and timer included; runs on four AA batteries, so it works with the power out.
• Fan: Optional

Who It’s For

Most gas inserts heat the air and run a blower to move it around, so the room hums and the warmth thins out every time a door opens. You need a fireplace that heats you, not the air around you. If you’re turning a drafty wood-burning fireplace into real heat and you want warmth you can feel from across the room, quietly, the Valor G4 is the one. Choose a fan-driven insert instead and you’ll spend the winter listening to the blower cycle.

What Makes It Special

The G4 is built around radiant heat. The ceramic glass and low-mass logs soak up the fire’s warmth and send it into the room the way the sun warms your face—no fan required, so the fireplace is never the loudest thing in the room.

Here’s the other thing worth knowing: the G4 runs on four AA batteries as its primary power, not as backup. It keeps making heat when the power’s out, with no electrical hookup needed. The included remote holds the room at the temperature you set, runs on a timer, and can shut the pilot off from the couch so no gas burns between fires.

Possible Downsides

• The circulating fan is optional, not included. The G4 warms the room it’s in by radiance; add the fan kit if you want air pushed farther.
• Edgemont and Craftsman fronts require a backing plate; backing plates are optional on the floating and square fronts.
• It’s an insert, so it installs into an existing wood-burning fireplace—if you don’t have one, look at a zero-clearance fireplace instead.

If you want a fire you can feel the moment you sit down—storm or no storm—the Valor G4 is the right decision. The room you avoided all winter becomes the one everyone ends up in.

The G4 takes birch, driftwood, or traditional log sets; ledgestone, fluted black, reflective glass, or red brick liners; and fronts from Edgemont and Craftsman styles to floating and square profiles in black, pewter, bronze, brushed nickel, and vintage iron, so it can match the room you already have.
