Superior: DRC6340

Tall, dramatic yellow flames behind a wide sheet of ceramic glass.

Quick Facts

• Heating Capacity: Designed for ambiance, not as a heat source.
• Fuel: Natural gas or propane; power-vent models are natural gas only.
• Controls: Full-function remote included; six flame settings.

Who It’s For

Some fireplaces are about the fire you look at, not the heat. If the flame is the point, you want it tall and wide. The Superior DRC6340 is for the contemporary room that wants a 40-inch flush-hearth fireplace with flames rising through crushed glass. Superior lists it as a decorative gas appliance, so choose it for the look; for real heat, look at a heater-rated fireplace.

What Makes It Special

An exclusive burner design produces tall flames, and the flush hearth floor and smooth face with ceramic glass keep the look clean. The gas controls hide to the side of the opening.

The flame rises through reflective black crushed glass in a full five-piece black reflective porcelain liner, with other glass colors available. Electronic ignition has battery backup, and the remote gives six flame settings. Superior backs it with a 20-year limited warranty.

Possible Downsides

• It is for ambiance, not heat. Superior lists it as a decorative appliance.
• Power-vent models are natural gas only. Propane models use standard direct venting.

If the tall flame is what you want to see, the Superior DRC6340 is the right decision. The fire is the first thing people notice when they walk in.

Choose the glass media color, and natural gas or propane.
