The Hargrove Kodiak Split Double Stack 30-inch set is for the homeowner with a large, deep wood-burning fireplace who wants a fire that fills it, without splitting and hauling the wood a fire that size takes.

What Makes It Special

The Kodiak Split has large logs that combine with a massive split front log. It is one of Hargrove’s Large Sets, built for larger fireplaces, in refractory material rated for 2000°F with crisp detail.

It sits on Hargrove’s Double Stack burner, a large ember-bed burner combined with an elevated main burner, which gives the flame the depth and height a big fireplace needs.

Hargrove backs the logs with a limited lifetime warranty in the fireplace they were first installed in, the burner and grate for five years, and valves and remotes for two.

Possible Downsides

• It is for ambiance, not heat. The damper stays open while it burns, so most of the warmth goes up the chimney.
• It needs a deep firebox. Double Stack sets need more depth than standard sets; the Kodiak manual lists the minimum fireplace size.
• The burner is sold separately. Plan on the matching Hargrove Double Stack burner.
