What Makes It Special

The Classic Oak has realistic seasoned oak logs at an approachable price, and it traces back to the original Flicker Flame designs from 1959 that were molded from the branches of real trees.

It belongs to Hargrove’s Fresh Cut styles: unburned, natural-looking logs in refractory material rated for more than 2000°F, reinforced with metal mesh, and hand painted one log at a time.

You pick the burner and the controls to suit the way you want to use it. Hargrove backs the logs with a limited lifetime warranty in the fireplace they were first installed in, the burner and grate for five years, and valves and remotes for two.

Possible Downsides

• It is for ambiance, not heat. The damper stays open while it burns, so most of the warmth goes up the chimney.
• The burner is sold separately. Plan on an 18-inch Hargrove burner kit with the controls you want.
• Glass doors stay open while it burns. Hargrove’s manual requires the fireplace doors fully open whenever the logs are lit.
